A feasibility study of an interactive shared single display groupware in resource constrained schools, Sarawak

    Get PDF
One pressing issue in resource constrained schools is the lack of access to computer facilities for learning. A single display groupware (SDG) is explored in this paper to provide an alternative solution for this limitation where it allows multiple users to work concurrently on a single computer display. This study aims to investigate the feasibility of SDG as an educational approach in resource constrained schools. The prototype SDG system RimbaIlmu, is designed and developed. Quantitative evaluations are carried out where the results indicate its feasibility in students’ engagement and learning performance, while overcoming technical constraints. Limitation of the SDG is also presented with the intent of guiding future improvements

Formalize the Software Quality Measurement for Heterogeneous Requirements

There are two main challenges in measuring quality of software requirements: (i) There is no single model that can precisely represent the properties of heterogeneous requirements, and (ii) how to derive the quantitative measurement of the requirement properties that can be used to measure the software requirements quality? The issue of quality measurement is to define the benchmark or baseline used to transform the qualitative measurement to the quantitative measurement, and to date there are lack of particular rules or properties used to assess whether the propose software requirements fulfills the criteria. Therefore, this paper presents and discusses the framework of a new formal platform for assessing the quality of heterogeneous software requirements, which are obtain from open innovations. Hence, with this model the reliability of the software to be produced is known. This is an important study which, lead to the reduction of software failure in particular for safety-critical syste

Electronic health record system for rural communities at Borneo Island

Electronic health record system is crucial to promote health awareness in the rural remote places in Sarawak. It is able to record and monitor the personal health of each community member without being their physically. However, into what extends the EHR technology is relevant and applicable to rural communities in Borneo, Sarawak. This paper reviews the current EHR technologies in related to constraints environment within rural areas of Borneo, Sarawak. Work had been done to introduce an electronic health record system, Sympulse, to rural community, Sarawak two years ago. Although the project is pending due to some financial difficulties, we argue that the current EHR technologies are still inadequate to work in constraints environment. In this paper, requirements of a constraint based EHR system are reported. This is followed by details analysis and comparison of the proposed EHR system with others state of the art EHR technologies. From the findings, some research challenge and directions are elaborated. It can be served as a guideline to design and develop a constraint based EHR system

Social Information Retrieval for Online Community Question Answering Services

    Get PDF
Online Community Question Answering Services is a platform that allows users to seek for answers anytime and anywhere. The services cover a large collection of unstructured knowledge and become a knowledge repository for problem solving. The answers in the services are generated by other public user. This environment creates a large collection of unstructured knowledge, which can be use as knowledge source for other intelligent processes. From the review, it is a challenge to access accurate information from the Online Community Question Answering services. This study propose a social information retrieval method to access the knowledge from the services. The proposed method query and retrieve information the online services through query expansion. Then, the retrieved information is filtered through a similarity analysis between a question with a query statement and semantic relatedness between answers and the query statement. The accuracy of the proposed approach is evaluated through human evaluation

When BDI Meets Argumentation: The Conceptual Ideal

Argument-based negotiation consists of a meaningful expression, able to provide better reasoning features and flexibility. Agents in this case, become aware of the information surrounding them in an attempt to analyze, influence and understand its counterparts or opponents. The agents behave intelligently to facilitate the argumentation process, which consists of argument interpretation, argument evaluation, argument generation and argument selection. The Belief, Desire, Intention (BDI) mode, on the other hand, is a widely adopted for modeling intelligence. Hence, we explore the relationship between these two models. We argue that a typical intelligent model involves two component, which are the reasoning and communication components. The integration between these components, however, is still unclear. This paper proposes the integration among the reasoning aspect (BDI in particular) and communication aspect (argumentation specifically) in an open multi-agent society. The capability of argument-based negotiation enables the BDI agent in intention reconsideration, to enhance its reasoning powers
